Strangers Overseas (People from the Dead Whale)
These days there aren't many resources to go around. More people is the last thing we need. But the vast, freezing water suggests we have no choice.
This piece is based on my interpretation of "The People from the Dead Whale", by Djuna. The sci-fi aspect leaves a lot to the imagination, as well as room for experimentation with not only concept, but color, style, and texture. This references Claude Monet's "Impression Sunrise", replicating the plein air textures and color palette.

Final Iteration, most textures are smoothed out, and the characters are saturated a little more.
First iteration. The canvas is difference dimensions for a better feeling of composition before I adjusted to fit a sense of story. The colors are duller.
This version references Monet much heavier, through texture and color. You can feel the stretching of the canvas before I smoothed things out.
This is very close to the final, only the colors are too unanimous. The characters don't stand out quite as well, nor feel as detailed.
